What Is A Deep Penetrating Concrete Sealer?

A deep penetrating concrete sealer is a non-sheen, economical and water-based impregnating or penetrating sealer for all types of porous surfaces. Primers with lower viscosity penetrate the maximum in porous substrate surfaces like concrete. If concrete is hard, then primer could be diluted for reducing the viscosity during generous penetration in the hard porous concrete surface.
There are many types of deep penetrating concrete sealers available in the markets like siliconates, siloxanes, silanes and silicates which can penetrate easily into the concrete surface and form chemical barriers which may shield against harmful chemicals and moisture. Using deep penetrating concrete sealers may provide invisible protection without causing any change in the appearance of the surface. Also, most of these products are breathable which allows water vapour to get escaped from the porous surface. Deep penetrating concrete sealer is usually used outdoors as they can provide remarkable protection against the harsh environment.

Important features of deep penetrating concrete sealers:

1. Long-lasting
2. Ease of use
3. Do not alter any slip resistance of the sealed surfaces
4. Natural and non-sheen look
5. Allow transmission of moisture vapour
6. Could be used as pre-grouting sealer
7. Excellent in stain protection

Benefits of deep penetrating concrete sealer

1. Lead points
2. Cost effective in protecting the concrete
3. Environmental friendly
4. No VOC’s
5. Non- flammable
6. Protection against ASR
7. Moisture intrusion is stopped in just 24 hours
8. Glued tiles carpets, thin- sheets, and epoxies can bond to the concrete even after applying penetrating sealers
9. Concrete is breathable
10. Holds back the hydraulic pressure
11. Lowers the pH level of the concrete surface so as to get greater adhesion of the topical coating
12. Cure the concrete uniformly
13. Does not break down with time
14. Negative or positive sides of waterproofing
15. Usually needs one- time application

Uses of deep penetrating concrete sealer

Deep penetrating concrete sealer is crystalline waterproofing material used for existing or new elevator pits, utility vaults and concrete slabs. This is suitable for waterproofing concrete structures, hospitals, schools, garage floors, parking structures, highway bridges, concrete tanks, retaining walls and concrete basements.

Application of deep penetrating sealers

Apply a generous amount of deep penetrating sealers using a pump sprayer over the surface. You will observe some signs of drying. After 20 minutes, any area where the penetrating sealer is remaining on the surface and has not been penetrated must be removed by using a mop, broom or squeegee so that the product is moved around and could easily penetrate. The surface must get a damp look within 20 minutes. This means, that by the end of 20 minutes the product must be penetrated below the surface. Remove puddles by moving the sealers around the surface using a mop or broom until all the product is penetrated into the concrete.
Penetrating sealers could be applied in freshly prepared sealers when the sheen of the surface is gone and leaves no marks when walked over it.
